Every day we will high light a band performing at North Empire Fest, sorry, it's in Dutch. Though there is an English interview with headlining act Broadcaster at the bottom of this post.

Broadcaster - November 8th

All Aboard! - November 6th

The Windowsill - November 4th

Ride The Fader - November 3rd

The Lost Noise - November 2nd

The Lost Noise. Wie houdt van ‘what you see is what you get’-rock zonder trucjes, is bij deze band aan het goede adres.

Interview - BROADCASTER (US)

BCpromo_slushpup copy.jpg

Here's a small interview with a band from Long Island, New York, US calledBroadcaster. This band plays a mix of punk rock, indie, and 90's college rock. Too vague? Think of Jawbreaker, Superchunk, or Cheap Girls and you get the general idea; bouncy tunes with instant sing-a-long lyrics. They just released their second LP 'A Million Hours' on Jump Start Records/Ass-Card Records, which is a record you should definitely check out. Here goes with the silly questions, fortunately the answers by singer/guitarist Jesse are better:

Could you please introduce the band?
Broadcaster from Long Island, New York.

For how long have you been a band and what have you done before?
We've been a band for a little over 3 years. We've released 2 LP's and 2 EP's. Done 5 tours and played a bunch of festivals in the US and Canada.

You are from Long Island, NY. What we think about NY is that it is super busy and that there are 1.000.000 bands who all want to play as much as possible. How is it for someone who actually lives there and is in a band?
It definitely feels that way to us too haha. Lots of bands, lots of shows, which can be both a good and a bad thing. We just try to play with friends that are coming through on tour as much as possible.

What are your songs about?
Relationships, touring, working, drinking, the ocean, and pizza.

Your new album just recently came out. How does the music on that album compare to the older stuff you've done?
It's definitely a little more layered, as far as the recording goes. New instruments like piano, 12-string guitar, and theremin were added. The lyrics are also a little more personal than past releases. Whether those are good or bad things, I'm still not sure haha.

What is the most fun thing about being a US band, and what do you think is the least fun thing?
Most fun: finding all the good pizza and burritos. Least fun: dealing with ignorant people who unfortunately occupy most of the US outside our little music world.

What do you expect from touring Europe?
We hope to meet lots of kind, new people. Find out about some great new bands. See some more of the world and try as much different beer and food as possible.

What is still something you'd like to do/achieve with this band?
Travel and just share music and beers with people.

You are all in other bands as well, how do you cope with that?
Yeah, we all keep busy. Basically our entire social life (or lack thereof ) is playing or going to shows haha.

Any bands/artists from your region we should definitely check out?
Aspiga, State Lines, Sainthood Reps.

Anything you'd like to add?
Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to us, we truly appreciate it.

Thanks to Jesse/Broadcaster for being so kind to answer the questions. We can't wait to see the band perform at North Empire Fest 1.5 @ De Bakkerij, Castricum coming Saturday (Nov 9th). Doors are at 17:30h and it's €6 to get in. Hope to see plenty of you there.

Translated - Ravens & Magpies

Yesterday was the last ever show of our best friends in Translated. Fortunately they didn't leave us without giving us something. Besides an awesome last show, that something is an amazing new EP. Have a listen/download to hear what we'll be missing in the future.
